I’d like to tell you a little about me, because it’s so important to understand who you’re going to be working with when choosing a therapist.
First of all, I’m a Mum to 2 children aged 10 and 11, who I obviously love to bits. We also have a dog (who I talk about a lot!). I’m also a registered Children’s Nurse and CBT Therapist for Children, Teens and Families.
I am passionate about improving local mental health support for young people and families with a drive to empower parents using evidence-based interventions.
Qualifications and certifications
I have studied and completed training in a wide range of different therapies, as I believe we are all individual and a ‘one size fits all’ approach doesn’t always work. That’s why I believe the more tools I have in my toolbox the more skills I have to share. I have completed training in the following:
- Paediatric Nurse – 1st Class BSc Hons Degree
- IAPT – Enhanced Evidence Based Practice
- IAPT – CBT Therapy
- MISP – Mindfulness in Schools Project
- DBT – Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
- CFT – Compassion Focussed Therapy
- ACT – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can take place in the setting that feels safest for your child. I pride myself on being accessible and adaptable to my client’s needs. I offer sessions primarily at my base at The Accrington Therapy Centre, but I can also offer sessions online, at your home or out in nature.
How long do sessions last?
Our initial phone call will usually last around half an hour. Assessment sessions typically last around 90 minutes, whereas therapy and mindfulness sessions can last around 50 minutes. The length of any parenting support sessions will be discussed in the initial phone call.
Do I need to wait with my child?
You are welcome to attend sessions with your child should they prefer you to stay in the room. If they would prefer you to wait in a separate area, a waiting room is available. For sessions based at home and outdoors you will be expected to be available and close by.
Am I nice?
Sounds like a funny one but it’s always the first question children ask! My answer is yes. I always try to be as nice as possible, and I have been told that I am kind and easy to talk to. Also, I’m regularly told that clients don’t feel nervous anymore after our first session.
